3\7\17 1st call Three day old clydesdale filly had a fever of 103 and Dr. Comstock gave her two shots in the neck and muscle in the rear. She was up and nursing and looked pretty strong and looked healthy.
2nd call A stable with a horse who has coughing and sounded like heaves. The we vaccinated the rest of the horses at the barn which was like 10. We did 8 vaccinations, and coggins for west nile virus. When a horse moves to another state or goes to a show they have to be tested for infectious diseases that could be spread to other horses. We noticed the horse who we thought had heaves also has periosteal reaction. This is when a art of the bone on the pastern is bumped and new bone grows around it causes problems.
3\21\17 1st call Vaccinations, dehorning and castrations at a dairy farm. 4 1\2 hours
2nd call Two belgians needed vaccinations. Emily accidentally poked the blood stream and when she retracted the needle blood came back so that told her it was not in a vein. So she found a better vein and injected the needle.
3rd call Two draft horses needed their vaccinations also
4th call pony had a swollen eye. The left one severely and the right one starting to swell. Emily did not find anything when she palpated the eye so she decided she would take pictures and ask a colleague. She gave the horse a shot of something so the horse would not be in pain.
3/29/17 One call A stable that needed a few horses vaccinated and their teeth floated. One gelding also needed his sheath cleaned.
